"Painting is the most frustrating and at the same time most exhilarating work I have ever done."
I continue to paint quickly using layered acrylic mixed media applying the pigments with my fingers as brushes. This has been my technique of choice for years, as it forces me to ignore details. I simple paint, enjoying the process and the freedom of watching the piece come together. I have recently realized that my work is rather simple in composition, almost always portrait style; central...
... figure with a layered background. I am, in 2017, attempting to add multiple images to each piece, trying to connect the elements in such a manner that both a story and emotion is exchanged between the elements. My previous work attempted to get the viewer to create their own story between themselves and the canvas. It seems like a simple change in style, but it is proving to be a challenge, which in itself is enjoyable.
I abstractly texture and paint the canvas before I begin the piece. I then ignore the surface, painting, layering, scratching, drawing, and obscuring the surface until the final image reveals itself. If after a few days I am not satisfied with the result, I paint over it, allowing some of the surface to show through.
My work continues to challenge me and fill my days.
